Back to Cisco's in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas

The 10 hour bus ride from Veracruz puts me back in the lovely southern Mexico city of San Cristobal de las Casas at dear friend Cisco Diet's home. It has been a year since I last said goodbye but I quickly re-acclimate, feeling really good and comfortable about being back. At over 7000' high, the proximity to the equator doesn't affect the 40-72 degree daily temperatures.

Home away from home. I now treat each yearly visit as my last which makes my return even more special.

I later learn that Cisco started a community effort to have welded art for street signs. Turns out he is the only one who would participate. So we have the only metal street sign in town on his corner home.

Cisco is the only one in town with a sign on his wall stating "OK to spray stencil art here".

Soul searching is a favorite passtime of mine in Mexico. As Cisco labors in his garden I find there is no less work to be done here, the difference is he has a passion for it and especially his back yard garden.

Back to the market for lunch. Normally taboo photos can be had if the price is right. The lady selling this chicken wants $3 for the chicken or $10 for the photo. Doesn't work for me so I steal an underhanded snap while she looks elsewhere. Her loss, a

My first time eating in a back corner market restaurant on this trip, I opt for the potentially safer pan fried chicken. I am in the deepest corner of the old town market. It doesn't get any more native than this!

Live chickens for sale. Ladies walk through the market with these hanging upside down for sale tucked under their arms. Hard to get a photo without a sock in the nose or a smashed camera in Chiapas.

Those who have known me from childhood know I can't pass a chicken, live, stuffed, baked or fried.

I periodically stop my walk just to look around. I just love those distant mountains.

It's a cold snap so I spend some time computing with laptop under Cisco's guest bedroom electric blankets. I receive a visitor.
