Out and about in San Cristobal De Las Casas

Life at Cisco's is never dull, in fact it is often too complicated to explain. If it's not some new guest who he sends on an exciting adventure that I may tag along with, it's his own routine of a daily life that seems quite beyond exciting to everyone else.

Post Avatar second viewing leaves me again in a state of post nirvana, followed appropriately by a quiet morning and a slow stride to my favorite restaurant, Salas Verde for menu del dia.

Each change of light or weather seems to make previously familiar landscape take on a new aura.

Bicycle powered grinding rock is the tool of choice for the local knife sharpener.

After a walk and later in the day, maid Rafina has the house smelling of wanton desire with this dish she is preparing. She is the camera's most elusive subject and always manages a last minute dodge.

Dinner is exquisite but at 7PM phone call lets us know Cisco's car is ready to pick up. Repair will be 55,000 pesos or $5000 US. We opt out as I am paying for the damage of getting his car stuck. The blasted chain wrapped around the wheel.

A broken ABS brake sensor and smashed emergency brake cable. Dealer cost for this alone (skipping unrelated power steering problem) is $1000 US. Ouch!

Cisco asks me to photo the company work order; he says we'll get the numbers and order the parts elsewhere, then have the work done cheaper.

There's hope, and I'm not so blue the next day. Walking down one of my favorite walkways behind Cisco's makes me stop to capture the moment.

Mexico is so different. Knocks all day at the door; wood for sale, water, butane bottles, flowers, cakes, cookies and my favorite, the tamale man comes by twice a week. Different wraps indicate the different flavors.

An eclectic place like S.C. brings like minded people together. Cisco's new guests are a San Francisco couple, German born Bettina and wild and crazy Snooky. Just my kind of people, we quickly bond as friends.
