We noticed on our arrival this year a big push for organic goods. The city now has a weekly Saturday morning organic market. We have so far made each one of them.

It's more good than bad because the bigger money can keep the organic effort going hopefully. It's always a fear though if not competition like this, certainly the massive big box effort poses a threat to cross-town historical city municipal market.

If the massive deep pockets of investors like Mega, Chadraui, Bodega (re-branded Wal-Mart) don't take down the city market, then perhaps nothing will and it will linger on for a few decades more.

Certainly comparing these breads and vegetables to the fruit fly breeding ground we encountered shopping at Bodega (aka Wal-Mart), it's easy to see why convenience doesn't always trump the freshness we've only experienced here.
