One of the last of the get away from it all small fishing villages on the Gulf coast is Celestun. About 6,000 people live in this authentic little town, a 3 hour drive west of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico and light years back in time from Cancun.

I underestimate the time to get to Celestun. It took 6 hours from Campeche due to so many stops of the Merida/Celestun run. Sunday morning, up to have a beach walk. The pier looked interesting from a distance. When I arrive I see why the 3 fishermen on the end have stopped fishing!
