Holbox island, Quintanna Roo, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

Isla Holbox is a little known island off the northern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Reminding me a bit of Utila, Honduras, golf carts are the main transportation but the beautiful beach is the main attraction. The city is smaller than Celestun, beach slightly more attractive but the tourists are numerous.

The luxury beach bungalows ($75 and up) begin just east of town and seem to go on from there - not sure how far. I only walked about 1KM down the beach. Everything but a couple of expensive resorts appeared to require a golf-cart taxi ride into town for

It's been windy recently they say. The beach appears to collect debris except in areas maintained by either the city or the hotels.
