Celestun - Small Fishing Village - Western Yucatan

One of the last of the get away from it all small fishing villages on the Gulf coast is Celestun. About 6,000 people live in this authentic little town, a 3 hour drive west of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico and light years back in time from Cancun.

A very long pier, but happily too small for cruise ships.

I stop by the Pronatura office at the end of the pier and find the young man manning the office is looking out the window. Oh, I see .... the chicas are going back to their resort hotel somewhere far, far away.

A lot of money went into this building only to host about 20 posters it looks like.

Walking back to the hotel, I pass a brand new, very upscale restaurant, Casa Peon. Looks interesting and the prices are fair.

The lock on the front door of my hotel jams and I have to find a young man at the hotel down the street to jump the hotel wall and let me in each time, so I decide to move at the owner's offer.
